Painted after a trip to the West Indies, the landscapes are like maps of our memories. The colour bright, vivid and sometimes jarring, prompting the viewer to look longer at the paths. This landscape series, combines landscapes and biology, its how I imagine what I would see if I were to look at my bloods under a microscope.
My landscapes can seem lurid and oppressive. The colours pattern talk to my heritage, how we pass knowledge through story telling, music, food. In my landscapes there is a story of the women in my family have thrived, survived and flourished all in silence. The images always remember the past and celebrate the possibilities of the future. The paining are loud and vocal, as the voices of mothers are silenced.
The view can meditate, dream and lose themselves in the forest. Every time you view you find something new.
This piece is painted on linen texture paper, which helps the medium to be as vibrant as possible.
This piece will be framed ready to hang.
